Come Listen

About the song: I wrote this pretty early on, and it’s still one of my favorites. I actually wrote it when I was studying for a vocabulary test and the word was “pyre”, so I wrote the “lift me up on a pyre” bit first and it kind of turned into a for real song. I’d really like to give it a proper recording one day. I think it could be really neat with some orchestration.

Come Listen

Don’t bar the doorway, come let me in
I have a burden I have been collecting
I have things to tell you, so come listen.
I have to tell you, come listen.

I have a passion in my heart still unknown
And it refuses to leave me alone
It won’t go away until you make it your own
I have to tell you, come listen.

Lift me up on a pyre ‘cause I’m burning
Any way you slice it
Any way you turn it
And take it higher ‘cause I’m in the mood to feel it and I’m in the mood to use it and I’m in the mood to earn it
This was the song, all along, of my heart
So don’t you dare blink or you’re gonna miss the best part.
When all we have is gone
Will we still float on?

I find myself talking to a closed and locked door and then
I find myself talking to a cold and locked heart again
Once it’s been locked up, can it be reopend?
I don’t know yet, come listen.

Lift me up on a pyre cuz I’m burning
Any way you slice it
Any way you turn it
Take it higher cuz I’m in the mood to feel it and I’m in the mood to use it and I’m in the mood to earn it
This was the song, all along, of my hearts
So don’t you dare blink or you’re gonna miss the best part.
When all we have is gone
When all we have is gone
When all we have is gone
Will we still float on?

Do you regret it?
Do you wish I’d never said it?
Do you wish I’d never meant it?
I meant everything I said, my love
And know it never changed at all
Know it never changed.
So we will float on, won’t we?
So we will float on won’t we?
We will float on.
