Three Reasons to be Brave

About this song: I recorded this song when I was pet sitting, and you can hear the dog wrestling on the hardwoods in the background at the beginning. It’s a story of someone in a bad relationship giving herself reasons to be strong.

Three Reasons to be Brave

One: Fear is keeping me awake. I hesitate before every word I say.
You hear about those girls who always hold on because they’ve got nothing else to lean on
But I never thought that I would ever be one

I was the one that you left
And I thought I was stronger than that
But I keep holding on in case you come back
So maybe I’m not

Two: Common ground. Nobody likes to have their heart kicked around.
I’m surprised you haven’t figured that out by now
I want to show you what it feels like to be weighed down
I want to show you, but I’m better than that now.

I was the one that you left
And I thought I was stronger than that
But I keep holding on in case you come back
So maybe I’m not

Three: There’s only me.
And I’m terrified of who that’s supposed to be
But I’m finding out she’s free.
